Adam takes a bite from the fruit of the tree of knowledge, and from that moment mankind is barred from the garden of Eden.

It has been suggested that this represents the point in time when humanity progressed from an animal spirit to one with a reflective mind, capable of imagining the future and dwelling in the past, as well has having definite ideas about ‘good’ and ‘evil’. Hence, the ego was born, innocence died.
